The women at Finote Rehabilitation and their stories...
My name is Fantanesh Genanaw and I am about 50 years old. I partially lost my sight at age 5 when I contracted the measles. Finote Rehabilitation teaches me vital life skills and supplies the resources I need to sustain my small business. I cook injera (Ethiopian staple food) and sell it to the public. Without Finote I would probably be begging on the streets for money. I am a poor lady and my only wish is to put poverty behind me.
My name is Worknesh Mengistu and I am 35 years old. I have been visionally impaired since age 3, due to trachoma. I have been coming to Finote Rehabilitation since it opened in 2007. I come here for support and learning. I also teach Amharic braille to other visionally impaired women. Finote Rehabilitation has helped me gain a positive outlook on my life and has taught me that my disability doesn't have to limit my potential.
My name is Tayech Bogale and I am 45 years old. About 20 years ago I was working on a construction site when a large bucket full of sand fell on my head and I lost my sight. Finote Rehabilitation has taught me how to make bread and sell it to the public. I have received loans to sustain a business and I am also learning to read Amharic braille. I am so grateful for Finote and all it's done for me but we need your support to continue this work.
My name is Zinash Abebe and I am about 36 years old. I lost my sight when I contracted the measles at age 5. At Finote Rehabilitation I am learning how to read Amharic braille and in the future I hope to have computer training here. My ultimate goal is to create a better life for myself and my 3 year old son by obtaining a sustainable income. I believe Finote can help me achieve this goal.
